A case of recovery from Misaligned Spine of the Fifth Column

Leung Yu Hung (From Hong Kong)   Occupation: Student

Outdoor activities that teenagers often like to take part in were all remote and inaccessible to me. My life was completely changed after a minor accident in Primary 6. From the X-ray, it could be clearly seen that the fifth column of my spine was fractured and dislocated or misaligned, with a sign of slipping forward. If the problem deteriorates, it will press against my nerves and will affect all mobility below my waist. The condition is similar to that of a slipped disc: even for normal standing, sitting, lying down postures, I would feel the pain after a short while. My waist and lower back were so stiff that there was no talk of doing any physical exercise. My emotions were very much affected as a result, and I became very impatient, irritable, and short-tempered.
For this, my parents were very worried. They took me to a few orthopedic specialists, and I also tried Chinese bone-setting doctors and physiotherapy. Some western doctors also mentioned taking a surgical operation, but their view was: I should not go rush into an operation unless the conditions have deteriorated. So I could only wait until the time when my nerves are being so pressed that I couldn’t even move my legs before I notify the doctor. To me, it was like carrying a time bomb with me. Taking a surgical operation seemed to be the only ultimate solution, but it was also the most helpless one.

On 5 December 2003, through an article introducing Taiji Five Elements Self Recovery Program (TFESRP) in Hong Kong Economic Times, my mother learned about the case of a lady who recovered from a spine fracture in a car accident through practising this qi-gong, so she took me to a free seminar about TFESRP. I knew qi-gong can help in improving one’s physique, and I heard that it can heal illnesses, but I was quite skeptical about it. I knew that Chinese herbal research and acupuncture are generally accepted in the west, but in my mind’s eye, treating orthopedic cases is an entirely different matter altogether. The two-hour talk did not make me change my view.

But my mother did not give up. She took my spine x-ray negative to the WISH President Christina Chiu, and all because of her words that “it can be healed”, she immediately enrolled me into the basic TFESRP course on that day. I could of course fully appreciate my mother’s zeal and kind intentions. I never thought that there could be some response in my body even on the first day when I practised the Magnification qi-gong: I felt great pain, numbness and swelling in my legs from below my waist. On the second evening after class, WISH President Chiu applied her qi-gong on me in front of my mother. Frankly speaking, I did not feel anything different physically. But what made me marvel was that when I touched what used to be the uneven part in my lower back which I could usually feel with my hands in the past, I found the place where the dislocation was had become straightly aligned!

This is true and real! In a matter of a few minutes, when I was facing such an unexpected change, particularly when it was a change that I had been craving for all these years, my feelings were beyond description! I was nothing other than amazed, and amazed! But WISH President Chiu only said with a smile, “Keep up with your efforts in practising.”

Of course, that completely changed my view, and it also broke down my concept that Western medicine is superior to Chinese medicine. Three days later, I went to have an X-ray and I saw this miraculous improvement with my own eyes. I have personally experienced the power of the mind, now what I need to do is to keep up with the qi-gong practice to activate my own self-healing power. Lastly, what made me feel very excited was that on the fourth day of the course, I could stand for half an hour without feeling the tiredness in my back, which also proved that there was observable effect even within a short time, and my conditions have been improving day by day! Finally, I would like to thank Economic Times for bringing me such a pleasantly surprising bonanza!
